Now that large estate homes are less common, the concept of Devonshire Tea or Afternoon Tea has naturally evolved.
Rather than host at home, it’s now a lovely experience to savour in the delights of an Afternoon Tea (sometimes called a “High Tea”) at a venue that specialises in this service.
Let’s take a trip together from the comfort of home (with our own teacup and treat in hand).
We’ll visit some of the most special Afternoon Teas across the globe, beginning with:
The Ritz in London
For£94 per person, guests can enjoy one of the most iconic Afternoon Teas in the world (and one that requires advanced planning as it is constantly booked out).
A large selection of teas and traditional treats (including classic mouth-watering scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve), complemented by their extravagant Palm Court setting and service to match.
Another British landmark, known as much for retail therapy as it is High Tea.
Since 1896, Harrods has continued to offer a taste of British tradition in their Tea Room, accompanied by a menu that changes with the seasons and serenaded by live piano music!
Burj-Al Arab in Dubai
Not only is this considered one of the more luxurious High Tea’s, but it’s also one of the world’s most expensive – with prices from around $250 AUD per person.
Set in the largest atrium (built to date) of this prestigious hotel (often referred to as a “7 Star Hotel”), guests can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the sea.
There are several different high tea options, each with its own special extra touches like edible gold. Oooh la-la.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Raffles is famous for being the home of the Singapore Sling cocktail!
As it turns out., their high tea is also incredibly popular. A hot buffet is available that features dim sum, curry puffs and scones – blending cultural delicacies from Chinese, Malay and British heritages. A three-tiered tray of other yummy treats is also included!
